    Gluten Free Halloween Candy List

    Gluten Free Halloween Candy List

I’m going to keep this intro short and sweet (pun intended).

Halloween is just around the corner and that only means one thing – CANDY (well if you’re a kid at least). But if you’re a parent that has a child that has a gluten sensitivity or Celiacs Disease, trying to find a safe and suitable candy options is quite difficult.

So to make life a little bit easier on Halloween night, here’s a complete listing of all the mainstream candies you are like to get on Halloween.

Gluten Free Halloween Candy List – Ultimate Guide

Here’s our gluten free candy list that’s separated by candy manufacturers. Just note that this is the U.S. only listing only because ingredients and facilities are different in other countries. For example, Smarties is gluten free in the U.S. but isn’t in Canada because their versions include wheat flour. Crazy, right?

Does anyone know if Chuckles are gluten free? When first diagnosed I saw a list that said they were and now some lists are showing them as not. I eat a package every couple months with no problem and when initially diagnosed (six years ago) I reacted very strongly to gluten. That is another question I have always wondered – is it possible you will stop reacting when ingesting gluten?

See’s Candy repeatedly told me that their products are all Gluten Free. Even caramels. I stopped by today and spoke with a rep and Manager. I can’t take this post on GF candies too seriously. I know my health. I value my life.I AM MY OWN ADVOCATE. I STILL DO MY OWN RESEARCH FOR ME.
I also avoid cross contamination, shared equiptment. I avoid even Gluten Free oats as it bothers me. Some labels are still general. I know that a type of food product is “naturally GF”.. but that doesn’t mean that during processing and packaging the risk of contact with conveyor belts that helped sort and package a GLUTEN item didn’t occur. Once i purchase and consume, I’m made aware of it.
when speaking to a rep about a pre packaged caramel *brand*.. they let me know that the company that provides their “flavoring” is not specific on whether or not they use GF products/equipped facility, so the main company that sells these caramel bites and prepackaged caramels in a bag can not guarantee GF .. i appreciate that honesty more than anything. Although i will no longer buy their product, I still highly recommend to non GF friends and family because i respect them as much as they’ve respected my health and that speaks volumes to me.
IT TAKES TIME. A CALL. Several questions. But it is worth the peace of mind to be able to eat and not worry or back track. Eat safe. Eat well everyone. 🙂

Airheads are not gluten free unless they no longer use flour to prevent the candy from sticking to the packaging.

I was looking at candy at the store one day. Next to a famous jelly bean, was a package of jelly beans by a different company, Gimbal’s. I looked them up online to discover all candies made by them are GF. (The first time I met someone with Celiac, I learned she could not have licorice. This year I’ve learned I have a gluten intolerance.) Gimbal’s has Licorice Scotties, even anise flavored for anyone who misses licorice.

Last time I read the Smarties label they did contain wheat. I always found it odd that M&Ms were safe but not Smarties when they are so similar

USA Smarties are safe (rockets in Canada)
Canadian Smarties (candy coated chocolate) contain gluten, so please be careful

Is this being terrible? Sometimes I think I should pass out candy with gluten so I won’t be tempted to eat any myself.

Thanks Adam!!! I am a little confused…..are you saying that Hershey Milk Chocolate snack size bars are not gluten free?? I thought I read on their website that the milk chocolate bar was and the bag doesn’t list that it has any gluten in it

I just called Hershey and they said that all of the Hershey Milk Chocolate bars (regardless of size) do NOT contain gluten but not all sizes have gone through the certification process yet. Only the 1.55 oz bar has completed the process so far. If the ingredients are the same then they won’t contain gluten.

I also believe that Russell Stovers say their candy is not Gluten free , I had contacted them and they agreed. They made a gf candy once but it was so expensive they stopped I guess. Also Butterfingers are not either.

According to Nestle, the following candies are gluten-free:

        Baby Ruth
        Bit-O-Honey
Butterfinger Bar (original flavor only, NOT Crisp, Giant Bar, Snakerz, Medallions, Jingles, Hearts or Pumpkins)

When I was in the hospital and diagnosed with Celiac, all the info I got about I could and could not eat, said caramel was not allowed. Is it really gluten free? I would love to have some if I could.
      thanks, Joyce

Some caramel has gluten, some doesn’t. In the U.S. most caramel is safe. Double check the ingredients. Nestlé, Kraft, and Hershey’s do not “hide” gluten in their labels. If it has malt, it will say so on the ingredients list and may even use the word “barley”. Of course wheat HAS to be listed and rye is not used in caramel at all.
I do know at least one brand of caramels with the creamy white filling has a gluten ingredient, but I can’t remember which one.

Here is an article that discusses the GF status of caramel, so that you don’t have to take my word for it.

Joyce Mrs. Richardson caramel is gluten free. I researched it and I eat it without a problem. I know it is not “a” caramel, but a caramel sauce. Super yummy!

I am pretty certain that Russell Stover’s and anything made by Brach’s states on their wrapper that all of their products may contain wheat. Just make sure to really check out the labels!

The label on the Brach’s candy corn does say processed in a facility that also uses wheat products. For me, that is a no no. Haven’t found a candy corn that is safe for that reason.

I eat candy corn all the time (although I shouldn’t because I’m also diabetic) and have had no gluten problems with it. Kinda wish I did! Would stop me from eating them.

Smart move by the candy industry to let us know the status “GLUTEN FREE-WISE of their products. I wish all food manufacturers would do the same. It can only increase their sales to the market that participates in a “when in doubt leave it in the store ” manner, like I do for a couple years now.
