Yogurt, in it’s natural form, is just made up of milk and fermented friendly bacteria, which gives it that thickness and familiar tangy taste. This makes plain yogurt 100% gluten free, naturally.
However, once you start adding flavors and additives to the yogurt, that becomes the tricky part as some flavors and yogurt brands contain gluten.
If only there was a resource to help narrow down all the gluten free yogurt choices…?
Thankfully, you’re in luck!

Generic Store Brands
Most grocery stores and brands tend to have their own identical yogurt. However, not all are created the same. Just be sure to always check the label, or better, check with the store itself to ensure that your yogurt is gluten free.
Yogurts to Avoid
Here are the yogurt brands, flavors, and variations to avoid:
Dannon
As of right now, Dannon yogurt can’t consider any of it’s product to be gluten free due to the risk of cross contamination. This applies to all flavors, including Oikos Greek Yogurt.
Mix Ins and Flips
Thankfully, most yogurt brands are 100% gluten free. However, there is one type of yogurt that’s typically unsafe to eat – mix ins.
Some yogurt brands have yogurt packaging with a mix-in available which usually includes granola, candy, oreos, cookies, etc, most of which contain gluten. Plus, cross contamination with those mix ins might occur in the factory, even if the mix-in itself is gluten free.
As a result, you should definitely consider skipping out on these yogurt types.

Hello. First, I just want to thank you for ALL of your informational posts. I truly appreciate and read every single one of them. Second, were you able to find anything on Activia? My son has celiac disease and I am a reading label freak but have never read anything he can’t have on their label. Just a question… thank you for your time

Dannelle Solonar
Noosa yogurt is gluten free too
george
Yoplait should be removed from this list. They just changed all packaging and added gluten back. I called the company and Yoplait owned by General Mills confirmed they did in fact add gluten in. Unfortunately I found out the had way. After eating it for years it made me sick suddenly with new packaging though Gluten is not mentioned it only says Milk for the allergy warning.
I encourage all people to call their number on the Yoplait Yogurt and get them to reconsider and remove the gluten again.

Are the whey products in frozen yogurt gluten free?
Debby
When was this written? I just checked my Dannon Oikos plain nonfat yogurt and it has the certified gluten free symbol on it.
Kim
Dannon has stated that their plain yogurt, any variety, has always been gluten free but could not say the same of anyofthe others because of cross contamination. However, at the beginning of 2015 they finally got all of their facilities gluten free certified. While I understand how `surprised` you may have been that it was not listed a `I recently found a plain Dannon Oikos that said gluten free might have been a nicer way to express your finding to a person who went out of the way to find lists and lists of gluten free foods.
Jen
Kim, I found nothing offensive about Debby stating a fact….get thicker skin…
Donna
Kim must have issues.
