We have just purchased a bottle of Lipton ice tea, peach, & it states it contains wheat products. Please explain! My granddaughter has coeliac & we are always very careful with her diet.

    Hi,
not sure if this list is accurate? If a juice is manufactured on equipment that also processes barley wheat or rye, then cross contamination can occur, small bits of gluten get in the product (even if the ingredients don’t contain gluten themselves) and the product can make someone with celiac disease sick.
Remember we are talking 20 parts per million of gluten can make a person with celiac disease sick. So; how many of these companies test their products and list them as less than 20 ppm?
And do you know if the natural flavors, colors etc contain gluten or not?
in general, if it is a processed product that ran on a factory line, I feel a lot safer if the company actually says it is gluten free. How many of these manufacturers actually list their product as gluten free?

Not only does the company have to list on the label that it’s gluten free, but you’re even safer if it says “certified gluten free”. Otherwise, there’s a chance that it is indeed manufactured in a plant that also manufactures glutened foods.

I honestly don’t think that this list is safe for celiacs. There are some items listed here that have a variety of flavors, and some flavors contain hidden gluten ingredients.
This could make someone with celiac disease extremely sick.
If you’re just on a gluten free diet because it makes you feel better, this list is probably okay.
    Celiacs, beware.
